Our Mentor-Mentee Network connects student journalists with seasoned professionals and retired reporters who are passionate about passing on their craft. We connect established student newsrooms with retired professional journalists who are willing to offer their practical advice and free guidance.

We design weekly journalism curricula tailored for emerging and under-resourced student newsrooms. Each module blends practical reporting skills with lessons on ethics, storytelling, and community engagement. Any humanities-based teacher can easily apply our individualized presentation-based slides.

The “Sí se puede” Essay Contest invites students to reflect on themes of empowerment, community, and social change inspired by the legacy of César Chávez. Organized by FYJI and Local News Pasadena, the contest encourages young voices in Los Angeles to consider the enduring spirit of "Sí se puede."

Pasadena Weekly covered FYJI's summer journalism program at the Alma Fuerte Public Charter School in Pasadena where the students learned from the FYJI curriculum and established the Alma Fuerte Post

FYJI wrote an editorial for Local News Pasadena (localnewspasadena.com) regarding the value of youth journalism, particularly in middle schools.

The South Pasadenan recognizes FYJI, in partnership with the Pasadena Media Foundation, for its work in resurrecting the annual "Sí se puede" Essay Contest.

FYJI Executive Director and Founder Nathan Wang spoke at the National High School Journalism Convention this April in Seattle, WA on the importance of advocating for youth journalism. He covered two fronts: individualized journalism education in school, as well as systematic school district reform.
FYJI hopes to democratize education and our series of classes taught at various middle schools is recorded and saved. This way, students from across the world can learn the value of writing, journalism, and media literacy. Find one sample lesson of the FYJI curriculum.
