The “Sí se puede” Essay competition is a bilingual essay writing contest in English or Spanish with a cash prize. Formative Youth Journalism Initiative and the Pasadena Media Foundation sponsor the essay contest. The contest is officially recognized and supported by the César Chávez Foundation.. The contest prizes are $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place.
The essay is due on April 30, 2025.

Any student in grades 6-8 may submit essays for review. Students must reside in Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, Arcadia, portions of El Monte, La Canada/Flintridge, Rosemead, San Marino, South Pasadena, Temple City, El Sereno, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, San Gabriel, or Alhambra.
