Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to spark a passion for literature and writing within the hearts of middle school students, ensuring that every young mind, regardless of age, has the opportunity to amplify their voice within their community.
We advocate for youth writing opportunities, particularly in those related to journalism. A well-rounded humanities education is critical, and our services alleviate resource constraints. Formative Youth Journalism Initiative confidently rejects access barriers to education.
By broadening the horizons of middle school extracurricular opportunities, we believe that when students have the tools and encouragement they need, they can become powerful voices of change in their communities.
In public education, quality sustains quantity. A journalism elective at schools is a textbook interdisciplinary opportunity that is unique but connected to core subjects.

What defines journalism at the middle school level?
- Releasing newsmagazines regarding school news, school athletics, opinion pieces, or entertainment
- Opportunities for leadership positions and collaboration among fellow peers.
- Opportunities for networking and developing interpersonal skills through interviewing and frequent communication.
- Improved writing skills and digital navigation, including lessons in media literacy
