Executive Director Nathan Wang accumulates two years of high school journalism experience and aims to form an organization based around inspiring younger communities in journalism
The organization officially adopts the name Formative Youth Journalism Initiative (FYJI) after consideration of expanding into all communication fields. The FYJI team focused its sights on journalism to ensure students did not feel overwhelmed by the new study.
FYJI becomes incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was an essential step for FYJI to develop as a non-profit organization because all donations go toward printing copies of student newspapers. FYJI funds the printing process of newspapers at partnered schools to ensure it fulfills its mission statement of being a free service for all middle schools.
FYJI begins outreach partnership with Octavia E. Butler Magnet School in Pasadena, CA. Working directly with administration, FYJI provides program outreach flyers for Octavia E. Butler Magnet School to pass around the community.
